Portraits of Facebook  (2011 - 2012)

In 2011-12, the somewhat nascent megasite Facebook was populated with a mere 800,000 profiles. Today there are 2.85 billion, plus many publicized political and social issues.

The exhibition, Portraits of Facebook, consisted of 196 painted portraits of international art and culture figures, such as Damian Hirst, Tracy Emin, John Baldessari, Anselm Kiefer, Larry Gagosian, and Yoko Ono. Utilizing Facebook as a frame of both reference and access, Freeman sourced 'friends' profile photos to paint a body of work in direct dialogue with the digital age. Though the focus of each portrait was the individual, the digital image transformed to flesh and spirit, the exhibition functioned as an installation portraying  a selection of the Facebook community and a small slice of humanity.

All paintings are acrylic on 11 x 8.5 inch sheets of mylar.
